2.2. This equipment will be used at elevations from sea level to 10,000 feet and in ambient temperatures from -30 degrees to 125 degrees F. The equipment must operate normally throughout this range of conditions. |

2.3. The equipment supplied shall be based on a standard model of a manufacturer with experience in the production of industrial quality truck bed covers, equipped as necessary to meet the requirements of this Specification. All material and workmanship shall be of good quality and design. |

A. Shell construction shall be all metal; 18-gauge galvaniel steel with white hammer powder coat paint (black and red hammer are also available). Fiberglass or plastic construction is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

Operation

2.7. The cover shall be opened and closed by radio remote control. This keyless entry system shall utilize digital rolling code technology. |

B. The radio remote controller shall be encapsulated in RTV silicone to provide protection from environmental elements.

2.8. When closed, the cam-locking system shall engage a 1/2 inch striker bolt at each front corner. The mechanism shall not release until the actuator raises the rear leg assembly far enough to disengage. |

2.9. When open, a self-locking electric actuator shall hold the cover in position whenever the motor is not energized.

2.10 A system shall be provided within the pickup bed cover to allow the cover to be wrenched open in the event of electronic system failure. This access shall be provided with automotive security bolts and a key nut. The key nut and key code shall be provided with each unit.

| 2.11 An optional switch inside the truck cab to operate the pickup bed cover in the event the user does not have access to the remote control transmitter shall be quoted separately on the attached price sheet. This option shall include the required cable for the in-cab switch. |

B. Lift assembly shall include mounting rails for the truck bed and one spring-loaded folding leg assembly at each corner. Material is 10 gauge mild steel. All mounting hardware shall be included.

2) Steel torsion springs in each folding leg assembly shall counter balance the weight of the cover for easy operation. |

3) Folding leg assemblies on each side shall be joined by a longitudinal member to keep the leg assemblies on each side of the cover operating at the same height, to prevent twisting of the cover and undue wear on the cover and leg assemblies. |

C. Internal rotary slam latches shall lock the cover at each corner, engaging a 1/2 inch striker bolt on the lower portion of each folding leg assembly and preventing the cover from being opened. |

D. One keyed latch actuator shall be provided on each side of the cover. The lock cylinder shall be capable of being left in a locked or unlocked state. |

E. Both locks on the cover shall be keyed alike. Two (2) keys shall be supplied with each cover. |

F. One grab handle shall be provided on each side of the cover. |

2.7. The cover shall provide access to the pickup bed by being opened on either side, or open on both sides at once. |

A. The cover shall be opened on both sides by unlocking a keyed latch actuator, twisting on the actuator and pushing up on the grab handle. |

B. When the cover is open on both sides, it shall be stabilized by two 1/8-inch steel cables attached diagonally to front of the cover and lift assembly.

C. The cover shall be operable on each side with the use of only one hand.
